What You Can do to Help Immigrant Families
One of the joys of 2021 at the Shrine has been the addition of a satellite office of Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC.
Cabrini Immigrant Services supports hundreds of immigrant families through immigration legal services, case management and counseling, food distribution, and community education. Throughout the year they make notes about which families need the most support. At Christmas they hold a party, ensuring these families have something to celebrate, food to eat, and gifts for each family member.
3 ways you can help
1. Presents for children
This year CIS-NY has 102 children between ages 2-13 for whom they need to buy gifts. You can order gifts from their Target wish list prior to November 30. That will allow time for delivery (and time for us to wrap the presents!)
2. Gift cards for parents (and kids aged 14+)
For parents and teens, CIS-NY prefers gift cards so these individuals have the freedom to make their own purchases. They aim to provide each family with at least one $25 gift card to use for whatever matters most to them. Visa gift cards can be dropped off at the Shrine or purchased from the Target wish list
3. Baked Goods
Each family receives a take-home Christmas pantry package of food and goodies. CIS-NY needs home-baked Christmas cookies, cakes, and cupcakes to include. These should be delivered to St. Frances Cabrini Shrine by Wednesday, December 8.
