Today is Ash Wednesday, and the Shrine will celebrate Mass at noon and 5pm. This Lent we will offer a variety of programs to help you grow in faith.
Drawing as Prayer is a 3-part workshop that directs the meditative acts of doodling and sketching to God. Combining pencil and prayer, it is led by art educator Paul Ferrara. Please call the Shrine’s office (212) 923-3536 to register. The workshop begins on Saturday, March 5 at 11am.
Music as Prayer is a 2-hour exploration of how music can deepen and enrich our prayer lives. Ruth Cunningham will introduce practices of humming, toning, as well as using chants for sung prayers and poetry. Using the breath and voice helps to quiet the mind and open yourself for connection to spirit. All these tools can be used to create a daily sound prayer practice to continue after the workshop. We will explore ways of experiencing music and how to use music and sound more effectively in daily life. In addition to sound the group makes together, Ruth will be creating meditative music using voice, medieval harp and flute created specifically for the group of people gathered. Saturday, March 12 at 2pm. $20 donation requested.
A Discussion Group of the Pope’s social encyclical Fratelli Tutti will meet on six Wednesdays at 6:30pm beginning March 9. Pope Francis’ letter addresses how we can respond faithfully to social isolation, racial conflict, and political division to build a more just and peaceful world.
